The Project
San Gimignano stands on a 324 m. high hill overlooking the entire Elsa valley. It is a beautiful example of a medieval town, still containing the original town planning, and has been declared part of the world heritage by UNESCO. Its streets and squares are typically characterised by the fish-bone or knife-like medieval paving. There are many buildings with gracious mullioned windows and it is well known for the many square towers, which made it worthy of the title given by the poet Dante ‘the town of the beautiful towers’ (‘città delle belle torri’).
