ECOLABEL/PRODUCTS-TILES
Through the actual application of LCA procedures, the Eco-label permits the identification of the environmental efficiency of certified products. It is therefore a tool that can be implemented competitively to differentiate Italian tiles from tiles of other countries, whose manufacturers have not attained the same high level of protection of and respect for the environment.

The adoption of the Eco-label can represent an effective response, in particular, to those countries which do not take respect for the environment into account in their production phases, thus operating a so-called environmental dumping strategy. This approach not only causes material damage to the environmental resources of such countries, but it also constitutes an unfair trade practice because the environment protection phase is not internalised. On the other hand, the adoption of the Eco-label allows environmental marketing to be used for the product.

The rigorous use of the LCA tool will provide Eco-labelled ceramic tiles the opportunity to be clearly distinguishable in the eyes of the responsible consumer even vis-à-vis other products like linoleum or fitted carpets, which are similarly applicable for paving or covering. The Eco-labelled ceramic tile is therefore better equipped to be accepted as a truly eco-friendly product.

Marazzi Group and Concorde Group are the first two italian companies that obtained the ecolabel marking for ceramic tiles in 2004.
