THE DESIGN STYLE
The ceramic tile makes it possible to create a space able to sustain atmosphere, especially for those with a preference for interior design characterised by glass, hi-tech material, light or very dark wood (such as wengé). Multi-colours, dimensions, finishings, all follow carefully the ongoing trends and give designers the possibility to integrate interior and external design. Single-colour remains a safe approach, as is shown by many recent publications. Many manufacturers support this trend supplying large size tiles (with a kind of loft finishing), often coupled with a horizontal format (kind of stripes or staves) with which the designers can express themselves in wall coverings. Cold colours express even now the concept of contemporary in a more diffused way, even if the present orientation changes course and goes more towards the use and variation of colours. Mosaics and small size tiles constitute the prevailing choice in uses characterised by strong multi-coloured contrasts (for example between floor and walls).

Together with a strong aesthetical value, the ‘design style’ communicates values such as dynamism, innovation, functionality, and hygiene. In this way cocooning is intended more in terms of belonging (aesthetics seen as discipline), efficiency and safety than intimacy and memory. Respect for the environment is considered a sine qua non condition, but it is never dependent on compromises from an aesthetic point of view. Vice versa, considering the relative well-being that marks the followers of this trend, the price does not seem like an excessive discrimination in choosing products that are more respectful of our health and the environment.
