What is meant by ‘sustainability’?
The Brundtland Report, the document disseminated by the United Nations Commission for the Environment and Its Development in 1987, defines sustainable as “a development capable of satisfying the needs of the current generations without compromising the capacity of future generations to satisfy their own needs.” (Gro Harlem Brundtland et al., Our Common Future, WCED New York/Oxford, Oxford University Press, 1987)
