With regard to ‘what is behind the product’, Emilceramica can be considered a safe reference point for designers that would like to operate in the direction of sustainability. Being coherent with a strategy of quality and technological progress, Emilceramica designs and builds on its own the most important plants. Result of internal research the rolling ovens guarantee a very uniform firing and minor energy consumption with respect to market standards. The company has designed and licensed a system of pressing with mobile moulds to manufacture vitrified stoneware with the technology of double loading and dust distribution system to manufacture full body decorated materials. The distribution system of hot air at 600°C to the atomisers allowed the company, the first in the Italian ceramic industry, to use a gas turbine (4MW) for producing energy.

The results of this engagement in the energy saving field and the reduction of industrial waste allowed Emilceramica to be awarded in 1995 the first Eco-efficiency prize promoted by the journal “Impresa ambiente” and since 1997 is involved in the European Commission pilot project for the diffusion of EMAS regulation in the ceramic industry. Since 1982 the company from Sassuolo, among the first in Italy, has installed a water closed-cycle with a full recycling, obtained also through an efficient system of sludge reuse.
