PRODUCTION: PROCESSES, INNOVATION
In the last few years, the Italian ceramic tile industry has reduced pollutant gas emissions in production processes by more than 90%, bringing them to more environmentally friendly levels.

The emissions levels of carbon dioxide - the gas most responsible for the green house effect and global warming – have been stabilised to early 1980s levels, while tile production has doubled. This gives the Italian ceramic tile industry a significant competitive advantage over other countries’ companies who do not use such technologies where their environmental performance both in energy saving and in emissions reduction is significantly worse.

The most noxious substances emitted in the firing phase are fluoride, lead and dusts.

As far as gaseous emissions control is concerned, performance indicators confirm excellent results achieved by the ceramic tile sector. Every plant sampled (in the drawing up of the ENVIRONMENTAL BALANCE OF THE CERAMIC DISTRICT) has depurator devices for all the hot gaseous emissions. The depurators ensure a drastic reduction in the emission of pollutants and thanks to their reliability and management, the number of cases where the pollutant concentration limits are exceeded is very low.
