CONCLUDING REMARKS/TIPS
Several studies show ever more frequent and wider participation in debates on food security, quality of the environment in the places we live in, and quality of life in our cities. Thanks to the mass media and especially to the Internet, this is becoming a more and more global phenomenon and it reveals a growing demand for direct access to clear and reliable information. The ‘experts’ are not allowed to have free hands anymore, their opinions and ideas are instead subject to the careful scrutiny of an attentive and increasingly well informed public.

Information and training play a vital part in the passage from patterns of behaviour with a high social and environmental cost to more responsible ones. This is true for all sectors, and particularly for those more strictly linked to personal and relatives’ health. The quality of buildings we live or work in represents, obviously, one of the most common concerns.

The ecological labelling schemes provide a useful but insufficient support, to diffuse sustainable consumption behaviour, especially in complicated sectors like the building industry. The idea that led Assopiastrelle to undertake a broad integrated environmental communication strategy (this website being only one element) is to provide a permanent and continuous exchange of information, going well beyond the normal parameters of traditional marketing.

In this sense, EXTENDED PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY (EPR) is intended as training for sustainable consumption. How? By advising all after sale services on the best (environmental) use of products put on the market, thereby contributing to a culture of responsible consumption through the promotion of ‘good practices’ and the reward of research into the field of sustainable architecture.
