The challenge was to create a design that, while under stringent budget restrictions and site limitation, reflects the dynamic energy of Times Square. The aesthetic is bright and contemporary, but also promotes Reuters' status as a worldwide company with a history going back more than 150 years. SHCA intervention is part of an overall eco-friendly package aimed at minimizing use of resources and at the same time maximizing information exchanges and satisfaction of the occupants, office-workers, users, visitors, etc. It is a sort of perfect example of the ‘less is more’ approach.

Overall the Reuters Building boasts several environmentally advanced concepts promoting optimal work performance including the use of more fresh air, better air filtration and greater amounts of daylight in work areas. Other technological innovations include high-speed fibre optics, state-of-the-art voice, video and data transportation.

The building's design is green, smart and ready. This means that it is 30 percent more energy efficient, able to handle current and future technology needs. In particular the state-of-the-art building envelope and space in the building are able to accommodate future green items such as fuel cells. To be more energy-efficient, the building features an air-conditioning plant capable of using more than one type of fuel. The façade with full-length glass walls on every floor allows in natural light while blocking most heat energy. The building's design also circulates a greater amount of fresh air than other office buildings.

SHCA created open and flexible workspaces throughout the building that incorporate a high degree of technology respectful of environment. Low partition walls encourage idea-sharing and communication with co-workers as well as team creativity. Small private spaces and break-out rooms on every floor provide areas for meetings and brainstorming sessions.

This project won the tenth edition of the CTI Design Competition Award.
