[Glossary]
The trullo therefore represents a valuable cultural heritage, and is a testament to the constructive knowledge of past times that perfectly define the relationship between climate, building and living well-being. It is emblematic of a living relationship that is totally respectful of the environment; it is a lesson to be defended in the name of its historical memory.

However, degradation due to non-use often threatens the quality and sometimes the existence itself of these structures. An intervention like the one implemented by the municipal administration of Crispiano, in the Taranto province, is - in that sense - worthwhile noting. Not only is it safeguarding the authenticity of the landscape, but it is also a rehabilitation project of a territory that would otherwise risk falling apart.
The project “Parco delle Querce”, followed by architect Martino Colucci, consists of restructuring a group of old buildings that will host a wing - the reception and the restaurant - of a new tourist village situated in natural surroundings.

The search for the best possible architectural solution, considering the issues related to the construction of new structures on the ancient ones, was reliant on a complete respect for legislation and bindings due to the landscape or the hydro-geological situation. The tourist centre was built with the aim of valorising the pre-existent architectural structures of a group of eight trulli, an ancient tank and some old buildings, safeguarding the specific characteristics of the natural environment, constituted by a wood measuring more than 50 hectares.
