SUSTAINABILITY IS NOW
The last section of S_TILES reflects on what is covered at present on the subject of sustainability, underlining the aspects most relevant in the ceramics sector: how is the final consumers’ demand changing? As far as the aspect of the offer goes: what are the initiatives to construct/renew buildings in a more responsible and adequate way? Which initiatives can be created to transform urban areas that are polluted and barely endurable, in sustainable cities? How can one exploit ‘ecoprocurement’ public programs to sustain the R&D of ecologically compatible products/services? (FOCUS)

From this rapid acknowledgement springs a consideration: it is of primary importance for the construction industry, as it is for their suppliers, purchasers, designers, to the final consumers, to work on the diffusion of the culture of sustainability. A culture flexible to local applications, but strict in its objectives: to construct buildings/ cities in which it is pleasant to live and of which future generations will be proud.

Examples of excellent projects brought to term - which we hope S_TILES will contribute to increase - will be included in the collection of CASE STUDIES in this section: here will be displayed all public or private interventions that are of interest to the communities of reference and those projects that significantly overcome environmental problems in comparison with traditional constructions, not to mention those projects - brought to term under rigid parameters of sustainability - that lead the consumers to switch to more sustainable lifestyles.
